Meetingpoint Music Messiaen e.V. association’s goal is to bring back the memory of former POW camp Stalag VIII A into public consciousness, on both sides of the river Neisse. Its work refers to French composer Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) who was imprisoned in Stalag VIII A and premiered his “Quatour pour la fin du temps” alongside his three companions on 15.1.1941. To commemorate the special premier in captivity of one of the most important pieces of chamber music of the 20th century the association organizes a yearly concert. The piece is being performed by international musicians on it´s premier date, the 15.1.1941. The association also focuses on international youth exchanges, especially Polish-German youth exchanges with a historical background, music-pedagogical projects concerning contemporary music and scientific research on the history of Stalag VIII A. Being a non-profit association its work is financed by public funding and donations.
